Abstract

The subject of this thesis is the analysis of energy security and connectivity in the fields of gas and electricity, in the geographical area of Southeastern Europe, with particular emphasis on the Western Balkans. In this context, the role of regional organizations, such as the Energy Community, financial instruments, such as the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) and initiatives such as the Berlin Process (WB6), is examined. The analysis provides an overview of the existing institutional framework governing the energy policy and energy relations of these countries, and considers the most important existing and planned pipelines and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) infrastructures. Last, it casts light on, the reform efforts made at the national and regional level by the countries of the Western Balkans, with aim to form a regional interconnected market of electricity.
