The purpose of this paper is to review the short-term impact of the 2020 coronavirus
pandemic on tourism traffic and the subsequent changes in tourism policy at both a
global and national level. It examines the basic indicators of Greek tourism before the
onset of the coronavirus crisis and presents the policies pursued by the Greek
government in its bid to diversify the Greek tourism product, with the aim of attracting
affluent foreign retirees. The paper seeks to highlight the multifaceted role of art in
reshaping the country's image abroad and using it to attract the desired demographic.
