Abstract

This paper deals with the issue of the effectiveness of government work through the analysis of inter-ministerial coordination and the Greek Centre of Government. The paper investigates whether the problem of centralization of power arises as a consequence of the effort to coordinate government action. Inter-ministerial coordination is recognized as an indispensable condition for the effectiveness of government work. For this purpose, the paper attempts a complete mapping of the organization and operation of the coordinating Services under the Prime Minister. For a better understanding of government coordination, the practice of the United Kingdom is analyzed and conclusions are drawn that can be used in the case of Greece. Moreover, when it comes to coordination, the paper examines the most recent reform, the establishment of the Presidency of Government, and attempts to evaluate it on the basis of its institutional framework and the effectiveness of its action.
