Diasporas are increasingly being considered as a growth factor for their countries of
origin. Governments of countries with significant Diasporas are actively seeking to link
them to productive sectors of their national economy, as their potential of contribution
thereto has been empirically proven. In the light of the above, the present study examines
the implementation of foreign policy for the connection of the Greek Diaspora to the
economy of our country and presents best practices for the development of trade, the
attraction of investments and the transfer of knowledge. In Part A’ hereof, the possibilities
for Diaspora contribution to the national economy of their countries of origin and the factors influencing their activity in them are presented. Then (Part B’) makes a special
reference to the Greek Diaspora and its relations with the national centre until today.
Finally, in Parts C’ and D’, using 5 axes of action as our point of reference: a) we examine
best practices for the connection of the Diaspora to the sectors of trade, investment
attraction and knowledge transfer, and b) propose actions for a coherent framework of
Greek foreign policy for the utilization of the factor "Greek Diaspora" towards the
strengthening of the Greek Economy.
