The object of the present work is the presentation of the film industry in Greece and its evolutionary course over time, which was clearly influenced by the political and economic conditions and the characteristics of the characteristics of Greek society. The main goal is to highlight the state policy for the development of domestic audiovisual production and the attraction of foreign audiovisual works, which is in constant communication and interaction with the EU directions. In addition, the role of the Greek Film Centre (GFC) and the National Center for Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME), the two bodies directly related to audiovisual production in Greece, as well as their points of divergence and meeting, are sought to be presented.
The writing of the present work was based on bibliographic research, search for sources and articles from the Internet. Given the scope of the concept of culture and cultural policy, the multidimensional nature of cinema, but also the multiple effects of the development of audiovisual production, the research was extended to bibliographic sources from various scientific fields, in addition to film studies. It was also based on a thorough examination of the legislation from the appearance of cinema in Greece until today, which was briefly attributed to a holistic understanding of film policy in Greece. Furthermore, it was based on a critical review of European institutional and regulatory texts.
