Η Ελληνική πολιτιστική/πολιτισμική κληρονομιά και οι εθνικές διαχειριστικές πρακτικές με οικουμενική προοπτική: Η περίπτωση της εφαρμογής της Σύμβασης για την Προστασία της Παγκόσμιας Φυσικής και Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς (UNESCO 1972).

Abstract

The main subject of this project is the presentation of the modern evolutionary interpretation of the Convention on the Protection of World Physical and Cultural Heritage (UNESCO 1972), as formulated in accordance with the recent Operational Guidelines (UNESCO 2021). The main objective is to highlight the rationale and importance of introducing and consolidating an integrated system of protection and modern management practices for World Heritage Sites at national and international level. The main axes that run through the whole project are the concept of sustainability, broader social participation and promotion of transnational and interdisciplinary cooperation in the light of the substantive preservation, promotion and transmission of the world’s cultural capital to our future generations. In order to achieve the above purposes and to highlight management practices with a universal dimension on the part of Greece, the emblematic monument of the Acropolis of Athens was chosen as the most representative example of the implementation of modern cultural management approaches, as reflected in the National Management Plan for Greek Monuments with completion horizon in 2024. The writing of the present work was based on bibliographic research, the search for sources and articles from the Internet, on the collection of primary material by interviewing with competent bodies from the Ministry of Culture and Sport, in particular with Mrs Sofia Spyropoulou (Department A2 UNESCO). Mr. Nikos Tsoniotis and Mrs. Maria Tsichli from the Ephorate of Antiquities of Athens, whom I would like to warmly thank for their response and valuable help. It was also based on the critical overview of international institutional, legal and regulatory texts mainly of the UNESCO Convention (1972) and its recent Operational Guidelines, UNESCO 2021), and in the study of the folders submitted to UNESCO for the inclusion monuments to the World Heritage List. At the same time, a critical approach to the international scientific literature and articles was followed, in order to investigate all the modern data for the implementation of the contract in its time. Particular emphasis was given to the thorough study of national management practices on the Acropolis of Athens with the main aiming to analyze and identify the good practices applied in the light of international directions in order to draw the necessary conclusions.
