Επιτομή
The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the EU strategy for international cultural relations and the role of Greece. The theoretical background concentrates on the conceptual clarification of the terms of cultural diplomacy and international cultural relations. The modern approach is adopted, which has shaped the new content of international cultural relations.
Then, at a first level, the model of the European strategy for international cultural relations is analyzed and it is critically evaluated through 4 axes: a) the EU institutions, b) the member-states through their participation in the European Network of National Cultural Institutions (EUNIC), c) the organised civil society within the frame of European Public Spaces and (d) the EU thematic and geographical programs.
At a second level, Greece is used as a case study, in order to highlight the opportunities offered to a small country by the EU. The aim is to respond to the research question, which is what is the role of Greece in the formulation of the EU strategy.
Bibliographic sources, primary and secondary, are used as the main methodology of the analysis. Also, in order to better meet the requirements of the topic, the use of qualitative interviews with executives, who have extensive experience in various critical services of the Greek foreign policy bodies, was chosen. The interviews provided the opportunity to reach the complexity of the topic of international cultural relations through a creative way of producing research data. Finally, material was obtained, especially for the case of Greece, which otherwise would be inaccessible.
