    The present study examines conflicts in the workplaces, emphasizing in the Public Sector. Initially, in the part of the literature review, the different forms of conflicts in workplaces and the various phases of their process of appearance, are described. The presentation of the causes, the positive and negative consequences and the various leadership styles that can be related with conflicts, follows. Afterwards, the basic principles for the effective approach and management of conflicts are presented, and by focusing on the negotiation strategy, we conclude by presenting some proposals for their avoidance and minimization. Then, the importance that cooperation and cooperative - democratic leadership styles plays in the effective operation of organizations and the avoidance of harmful conflicts and disagreements, is mentioned. Besides the secondary research, the present study presents the results of primary research that was conducted in selected organizations of the Public Sector and more specifically in the General Secretariat for Public Revenue, the Insurance Fund for Shipping Agents, the National Centre of Public Administration and Local Government and the Managing Authorities of Operational Programmes. The aim of the research is the report of the trend of conflicts in the selected organizations, of the causes that prevail, of the most important consequences and of the importance of cooperation. The report of the relation between the decision - making process, the various leadership styles, the freedom of the employees to take initiatives and the frequency of conflicts in the workplaces, is also attempted.
